Who I Am

I am a mama, animal lover, artist, outdoor & travel aficionado and a lifelong learner.

My name is Stacey, and I am a certified birth doula in the northwest metro area of the Twin Cities, where I live with my husband and sons, and our dogs and cats. I have traveled to 6/7 continents over the past eight years - ask me about my favorite places!

My background is in sports medicine - I have been a certified athletic trainer since 2009 and a university educator since 2013. I am fascinated by the human body, love to dissect the ways that people move and think, and feel most myself when I am teaching or talking about things that I am passionate about.

How I got here

I have always been fascinated by the human body, and humans making humans will never cease to amaze me. When I had my first baby, that fascination turned to passion for all things birth related.

When my best friend started having babies, I had the honor of being able to care for her right after they were born. It was in these times that I had my first glimpse into how beautiful and sacred birth and postpartum really are, and it’s when I began to consider becoming a doula.

Stepping into the doula world has affirmed my calling to this work. I love caring for people and I think that birth is beautiful and a sacred space in which everyone deserves to be educated and empowered.

Core Values.

I believe that pregnancy and birth are normal and beautiful life events, and are not to be feared or hidden. I believe that pregnancy, birth, and postpartum are sacred and transformative experiences, and a space that should be treated with respect and care. I believe that our minds and spirits are incredibly powerful and that they merit just as much care and attention as our bodies in birth and postpartum. I believe that holistic care is the best approach to serving and empowering individuals and families. I believe that everyone is worthy and deserving of support, especially in these beautiful seasons of life.

FAQs

  • A doula is a trained birth worker who provides physical, emotional, and spiritual support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Doulas can advocate, educate, and empower, providing resources for birthing people and their families.

  • A midwife is a healthcare provider who is trained to provide medical care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. While doulas provide physical support, such as comfort measures during labor, they do not perform physical examinations, cervical checks, or deliver babies.

  • Because it’s a great idea! Everyone needs and deserves support and advocacy during birth and postpartum. People who receive continuous support from a doula have been shown to be less likely to have negative feelings about childbirth, and to use pain medication. They are more likely to have a shorter labor and babies are less likely to have complications at birth. Partnership with a doula has been shown to decrease the risk of a Cesarean by 39%. • Birth art is using art to process your birth, either prenatally or postpartum. We use the process of creating art to access a part of our brains that we can’t necessarily get to in conversation. It can be a great tool to help you visualize your hopes for your birth or to help you process your experience postpartum.
